Uganda Gorilla Trekking Guide — Permits, Seasons & What to Expect
Mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda is among the most profound wildlife experiences on earth. This guide covers everything discerning travellers need before booking.
Permits and timing
Uganda Wildlife Authority issues a limited number of permits daily for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga. We secure permits as part of every bespoke itinerary — typically three to six months ahead for peak season (June–September, December–February).
Fitness and trek length
Treks range from one to six hours depending on gorilla family location. Porters are available and recommended. We match sector and family to your fitness level during planning.
What to pack
Neutral clothing, waterproof layers, sturdy boots, and gardening gloves for vegetation. Cameras without flash — the hour with gorillas passes quickly.
Why Bwindi
Uganda hosts roughly half the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Bwindi's biodiversity and our team's lifelong connection to the forest make it the heart of what we do.
